Turning an expiring contract into a win

A practical sequence for challengers.

  • Read the original award notice and contract documents to understand scope, term, extension options and the evaluation criteria that won last time.
  • Register on the buyer's portal and answer any preliminary market engagement notice. It is often your only chance to shape the specification.
  • Gather evidence the evaluators will want: competent person scheme certificates and assessment reports; sample eicr showing coding and observations.
  • Price TUPE properly. On a re-tender, the incumbent's staff usually transfer, and their terms drive your labour cost.
  • Plan mobilisation in detail. Evaluators weigh the risk of changing supplier, so a credible handover plan often decides close contests. Try the free mobilisation plan builder.

How this data works

Plain rules, so you can judge how far to rely on it.

  • Awards come from official contract award and contract details notices on Find a Tender, Contracts Finder, Public Contracts Scotland and Sell2Wales.
  • A notice counts as FM when its CPV classification or title places it in one of 14 FM, M&E and building services categories. Supply-only goods contracts are excluded.
  • The supplier shown is the first named supplier on the notice. Frameworks and multi-lot awards can name many suppliers, so check the notice for the full list.
  • Contract end dates are the period stated in the notice. Extension options are often not exercised, or are exercised without a new notice, so treat end dates as a planning signal.
  • The likely re-tender window is 12 to 6 months before the stated end date, which is when most UK buyers run market engagement and publish the new tender.
  • Values are as published, usually excluding VAT. Framework values are often ceilings shared across suppliers, not guaranteed spend.

Electrical contract questions

Straight answers for UK suppliers.

Who wins public sector electrical contracts in the UK?

The supplier table on this page ranks the companies named on the most UK public sector electrical award notices in the last 12 months, with links to every award. Large national providers win many frameworks, but most individual electrical contracts go to regional and specialist SMEs.

How do I find electrical contracts that are coming up for renewal?

The renewals list on this page shows electrical contracts whose stated end date falls in the next 18 months, with the incumbent supplier and a likely re-tender window. Contact the buyer during market engagement, before the new tender is published.

How long do electrical contracts usually last?

Public sector electrical contracts are commonly let for 2 to 5 years, often as an initial term plus optional extensions. The stated end date on an award notice may not include extensions, so confirm with the buyer before relying on it.
